Our History 

Gleam Detail was founded in 2009 by Martin Ponter, starting out with a red Ford van, a handful of tools, and an unmatched drive for perfection. By 2014, the business was ready to grow, and with crucial investment from Steve Ponter—Martin’s uncle and a successful businessman based in Thailand—the company was able to fund the purchase of a modified Caddy van and open a large detailing unit in Rochester.

The unit also featured a salon owned by Gleam and run by Martin’s wife, Bex Ponter, creating a unique family-run business that combined premium car care and personal grooming under one roof.

By 2018, the unit was closed, and Gleam Detail transitioned to operating from a garage workshop at home while continuing mobile services. This change allowed the business to stay personal, flexible, and closely connected to its loyal clients.

Between 2021 and 2023, Gleam Detail paused operations due to personal family circumstances. Martin dedicated himself to caring for Bex while holding onto the dream of rebuilding the business.

In 2023, the revival began as Martin’s son, Wills, officially joined as Co-Owner at just 19 years old—bringing fresh ideas, renewed energy, and a lifelong passion for detailing.

Now in 2025, Gleam Detail enters a bold new era. Focused on high-end vehicles—from sports cars to supercars—this father-and-son team combines decades of experience with modern techniques to deliver elite, hand-finished results.
